Special Keynote Speaker, Terry Dobson - Creative Lead, Advanced Projects, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.

Terry Dobson’s creative direction for Disney spans virtually twenty years since graduating Yale School of Art in 1990 (MFA, Graphic Design). He spent his first Disney decade Imagineering new shows and rides for Disney’s Theme Parks worldwide. Most notable was his work alongside visionary Disney Fellows Bran Ferren, Danny Hillis and Alan Kay to create Innoventions: a new kind of hands-on technology pavilion that debuted at Epcot Center in 1994. His dream of designing an attraction for the original Disneyland Park came true in 1998, when he was handed the creative reins to transform Walt’s 1964 World’s Fair Carousel of Progress into a similar interactive technology pavilion for Tomorrowland. The highest honor for outstanding achievement in the Themed Entertainment Industry was awarded to Terry in 2000. His THEA award recognized his vision and creative direction for Epcot’s Millennium Village attraction, which redefined World’s Fair-style pavilions by bringing together under one roof more than 50 countries to celebrate a world without walls.

Terry’s second decade at Disney has been entirely virtual, beginning with an original game idea he conceived and co-produced for Disney Interactive. The Villains’ Revenge game was chosen as best Computer Children's Entertainment Title of the year 2000 by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. The socially-interactive family experiences he continues to create online connect Disneyland’s attractions to home, and extend some of the most beloved brand mythologies past the Theme Park berm, and beyond. In 2009 he was inaugurated into the Disney Inventor’s Club, and awarded 2 patents for his online innovations for Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Toy Story Midway Mania, The American Idol Experience, and the massively multi-player Virtual Magic Kingdom game.

In addition to his role as Creative Lead for the Advanced Projects team at Disney Parks & Resorts online, Terry also teaches Disney’s rich legacy of visual storytelling to university design students at Loyola Marymount LA. His rediscovered passion for academia was coupled with a rediscovered passion for Graphic Designers, and he is now the proud husband of a Design Professor with whom he raises two marvelous boys in San Marino.
